The Virginia Robinson Garden is a great place to begin any Beverly Hills vacation because it highlights so much local history. One of the first estates ever built in the area, the Virginia Robinson Garden features fantastic architectural detail and stunning scenery. Built in 1911, the Robinson State is named for its original owner, Miss Virginia Robinson (of Robinson-May department store fame). Known as “The First Lady of Beverly Hills”, Virginia transformed her hilly property into a six-acre tropical oasis, hosting an endless string of parties during her lifetime. Visitors were always welcome at Virginia’s estate, including actors like Fred Astaire, Charles Boyer and Maurice Chevalier. When Virginia died in 1977 (at the age of 99), she willed her estate to the County for the enjoyment of the public. It is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is open year-round for tours.

Main attractions in the garden include the front entrance, the entrance garden, the front patio and the Italian terrace garden. There is also a main lawn area complete with a pool pavilion and pond.
