Retired Numbers

There are a number of great individuals that made their mark in the history of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Jackie Robinson (#42) debuted his career on April 15, 1947. His number was retired form all major league baseball in honour of him breaking the MLB color barrier in 1947. He spent his entire career with the Dodgers. Jim Gillian (#19) died suddenly in 1978 at the age of 49. The Dodgers retired his number right away and he is the only non-hall-of-famer to receive this honour. Another great player was Don Drysdale (#19). He teamed up with Sandy Koufas (#32 and also a retired number) during the late 1950
s and 60's and formed one of the most dominating pitching duos in history. Known a "Big D" by his fans, Drysdale's 154 hit batsmen remains a modern National League record and he remained on the team until 1993.

Vin Scully was the Dodger's play by play announcer for 57 years. Did you know that Scully holds the record as the longest tenure of any broadcaster with a single club in professional sports history?
