How they got here

The LA Angels were originally called the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, but people thought that this name was too long so it was shortened by news organizations. The decision to begin the Los Angeles Angels franchise was an easy one. They only problem was that someone needed to step up and purchase the team. Actor, singer and owner of Golden West Broadcasting, Gene Autry attended the owners' meeting wanting broadcasting rights for the team's games. In 1996, Disney took over the Los Angeles Angels and hired a man named Tony Tavares as the team president. He then hired Bill Stoneman as the general manager. This was seen as a good move on the part of Tavares because the Angels won their first World Series under the work of Stoneman. Disney was the key to population growth and development because of Disneyland which was opened in 1955. Walt Disney was on the Angels' Board of Directors until 1966. A movie called "Angels in the Outfield" was also made to feature a version of the team in 1994. The Angels introduced their mascot in 2001 which was the Rally Monkey. This was put in place as a joke, but the team soon began winning and wanted to keep their streak alive with the Rally Monkey.
